Balthazar desired her more than anyone he'd ever met, enough that he had no interest in anyone else.
His aura changed because he had fallen in love, a forbidden, repulsive thing for a Bicus to do. He could no longer be with anyone else. Erzsébet fought her attraction to him until she could no longer push him away, and the two became lovers, changing Balthazar's body so he smelled like Lilacs. Balthazar did not want her to have a vampire child because she was too loving, and the vampire baby would be taken away from her. He didn't want to cause her heartache. Eventually Erzsébet got frustrated with his refusal to give her a child, and broke things off with him. It should be noted that while she did care for Balthazar, her love wasn't as deep as his. She found another Incubus, Gaius, that looked like Balthazar with black hair and purple eyes, and got him to give her what she wanted instead of Balthazar, since he refused. Balthazar was present for the birth of her baby, only to discover Erzsébet had given birth to twins, one a vampire, the other a human. She had drunk human blood during her pregnancy to keep the human fetus alive long enough to give birth to them. The vampires took the vampire child away, while the human child was raised as one of Erzsébet's children. but both were claimed as her heirs. Once she gave birth to them, she realized the mistake she made by betraying Balthazar, that he would never fully be hers again even if he was willing to stay by her side forever. He still pledged to stay with her, but she refused to ask that of him because she knew she had hurt him. Balthazar went back home so he could confront Gaius for touching his girl. When he returned to the human realm, many years had passed. He returned on the night in 1603 when Anastasia was giving birth to a daughter. Erzsébet asked him to take the child away to keep her safe, but didn't explain what she meant at first. The baby could never know who they are, who she really is. When he pressed, Erzsébet explained that Anastasia went on a killing spree when her mate was killed, and there's a warrant for her arrest with the vampires, so the baby needed to never be near them, or she'd be in danger. Anastasia wanted to name the baby after her mother, but Erzsébet insisted she must have a different name to keep her safe, she should be Elisabeth. Balthazar took the baby to the vampires and left her there, telling them her name is Elisabeth. After that, Anastasia started to rack up a body count with her thirst for blood, and Erzsébet was stuck hiding the bodies. Balthazar knew it would one day come down on her, but she loved her daughter and refused to stop her. Eventually, in 1611, Erzsébet was arrested and convicted for killing hundreds of people, something she never did. She gladly covered for Anastasia because she knew if Ana was arrested for this, they might discover Lisbeth is hers, so she took the blame before being bricked into the tower of her castle. Balthazar came to her and promised to not leave her again. He spent the next three years with her in that small tower. It made him too anxious to stay in one place for very long, something that would follow him around for centuries. Before Erzsebet died, she made Balthazar promise to take care of her granddaughter. He left her behind, and appeared before the 11 year old little girl, Elisabeth, Erzsébet's granddaughter. Neither of them had a family, and he promised to take care of her. Lisbeth grew up and Balthazar kept his promise to be there for her, all while keeping the love of Erzsébet in his heart, not letting anything or anyone else in. |
