Asher was resurrected by Cyrus using Jaz’s necromancy powers, aided by the spirit of his familiar, a bear named Artio. Cyrus had Jaz resurrect the bear a few months before, all part of his plan to bring Asher back to life.
Once Asher was alive again, after centuries as a ghost, he took a new name in order to not be discovered as the founder of Highborn, and a previous High Chancellor of the Council.

Asher was aware that the newest necromancer had been used to resurrect him, but he didn’t know who that person was until he met her at a Council party. Jaz quickly enchanted him, and he easily developed feelings for her.
With those feelings came a sense of guilt that Asher had never experienced before. He was the cause of so much misery and pain, but he couldn’t help begging Jaz to accept him, even if he believed she could never love him back.
