Full Name Jasper Valentine
Nickname Asher Birth Year 1504 Age 35 Species Witch Specialization Enchantment Power level 4 Sexual orientation Heterosexual Nationality British Hair Color Brown Eye Color Blue Sibling Ambrose Jasper Valentine craved power from a young age. He developed a dislike for magical beasts because of the people he spent time with, ones who believed they were better than animals. As he got older, he believed it was his duty to put magical beasts in their place. His brother, Ambrose, had a different belief, one Jasper found repulsive. Helping the beasts. No amount of persuasion was convincing Ambrose to join Jasper, and it put a rift between the brothers as Jasper believed he was being betrayed.
To force Ambrose's hand, he secretly started charging beasts for the information to find Ambrose's cottage, making sure they wouldn't find it without Jasper's help. If they couldn't pay, they couldn't have their loved ones resurrected. This naturally ended Ambrose's necromancy business, and brought him to Highborn Academy, the brand new witch school Jasper helped build. Jasper allowed Ambrose to keep up his necromancy, but charged even higher prices to the beasts that wanted a resurrection, one he knew they could not afford. Jasper then started spreading lies that beasts were attacking witches, and imposed strict boundaries around witch settlements, which eventually led to a kind of martial law, restricting beasts within witch land. Jasper's ambitions led him to becoming the Chancellor of the witch high council, and he continued subjugating beasts in his reign of terror, banning them from witch land, taxing them until they were starving, and offering them to pay off their debts by becoming indentured servants to witches. The few that agreed soon found themselves enslaved, and Jasper intended to enslave all beasts. He discovered Ambrose was consorting with the enemy, resurrecting their dead, something he had made illegal for beasts to ask for. He knew his brother could not be controlled, and forced a divination witch to give him a prophecy on how to bring Ambrose to his side. The prophecy instead was that the next necromancer to rise to power would bring the high council down, and end their reign forever. Jasper decided he would take the necromancy books, kill his brother, and train the next necromancer to be the council’s slave, so they would never rise against their master, but also ensuring that necromancer would never rise to their full power. When Jasper killed Ambrose, a Cerberus and the goddess Persephone erased his memory of the event, so he would never find Ambrose and the necromancy books. After the beasts learned their friend was dead, they rose up and fought against Jasper's tyranny, spawning the magical beast war that would span centuries. Before Jasper’s death, he trusted a few witches in the council with his secrets, and made sure they understood there could never be another necromancer, or their world would be destroyed. |
