Olivander fell in love with Violet when they were 12 years old, only for her to discover she was soulmates with his cousin, Saul, who insisted he felt nothing for her. Still, Oli and his twin, Guy, kept her affections until the next year when Letty died in an explosion. Only, did she die? The brothers are not exactly convinced since a body was never recovered. Letty means too much to them to just accept this. Olivander's mother, Anna, married Violet's mom, Leticia, before Anna died a few years later. Leticia took the boys in and raised them as her own.

After Letty had been gone for two years, Guy and Olivander's search led them to uncovering the existence of Highborn Asylum, a secret witch facility for unstable witches. They attempted a rescue that ended with Olivander being locked in the Asylum for an entire year, where he discovered her memory had been wiped. He used that year trying to make her remember him, despite her memory constantly being erased.

Finally, Guy finds the asylum and breaks Oli and Letty out. The twins convince her they can be trusted, but before they can bring her home, the Asylum captures her again and takes her away. The boys kept trying to bring her back, but it takes them another decade before they're able to rescue her.
