When the new fairy queen, Entina, was born, she sprouted with her a new court of fully-grown fairies from the enchanted birthing flowers. Drusinella was among the new sprouts, and she somehow found herself friends with the bubbly Soflee, a friendship she complained about but actually enjoyed. One day, Soflee introduced Dru to another fairy, Alfrigg. Dru was instantly attracted to him, but fairies didn't have romantic relationships, so she kept silent about her feelings. The three of them did everything together as they matured and grew.

Dru pined for Alfrigg, but always noticed him interested in other girls, and figured her grumpy attitude wasn't enough to make him love her. Eventually, she noticed him paying more attention to her, to the point where she was certain he liked her back.

Just when they were about to admit those feelings to each other, Soflee fell in love with a human prince, who rejected her because she wasn't a princess, and therefore not good enough for him. This enraged Drusinella, and she cast an unbreakable curse on him, which violated sacred fairy law.
While understanding of her actions, Alfrigg couldn't believe what she'd done. He removed her memories of him and transformed into a bird, casting a spell that would only be broken if Drusinella learned from her mistakes.

Drusinella was banished from Fairyland for what she'd done, and built a cottage in a forest, far, far away from her home, where she met Alfrigg in bird form and allowed him to live with her.
