When the new fairy queen, Entina, was born, she sprouted with her a new court of fully-grown fairies from the enchanted birthing flowers. Alfrigg was among the new sprouts, and he quickly became friends with some of the others, a fairy named Soflee, and her grumpy friend, Drusinella. The three of them did everything together as they matured and grew.

Alfrigg and Drusinella began to develop feelings for each other, feelings both were too hesitant about unearthing. Just when they were about to admit those feelings to each other, Soflee fell in love with a human prince, who rejected her because she wasn't a princess, and therefore not good enough for him. This enraged the grumpy Drusinella, and she cast an unbreakable curse on him, which violated sacred fairy law.

Alfrigg knew Drusinella had good intentions, but when he saw she wasn't going to stop at one, he removed her memories of him and transformed himself into a cardinal bird, hoping to slowly change her spirit and make her understand her actions were wrong.

Drusinella was banished from Fairyland for what she'd done, and built a cottage in a forest, far, far away from her home, where she met Alfrigg in bird form and allowed him to live with her.
