Galen was assigned to a vampire named Lisbeth, a woman he quickly discovered had never had a family. She was withdrawn, didn't know how to make jokes, and rarely smiled. He worked hard to get her out of her shell by treating her like his sister, and the two parted ways with a good relationship when his contract was up. He hated leaving her behind, knowing no one was there to take care of her, but his love had helped her heal, and he had hope she would be okay.
Leaving Renard was harder. The plan was they spent ten years with the vampires, as per the contract, and then they went back to France to start a vineyard, but Renard had fallen in love with his vampire, Olivier, and he didn't want to return. Galen went back to France alone and built the vineyard he always wanted, hoping his friends would return one day.
