Bastien was born into the shadow demon species, one feared for being dangerous and cruel, but Bastien only ever wanted to be kind and gentle. Queen Nyx implemented a decree that all demons should attend school together, to further unify the country. Bastien was avoided by his classmates who feared him, purely based on his species.

One day after school, he noticed two of his classmates being bullied, and fought the bullies off. The classmates were two friends, an Oni demon named Hinata, and an Anubis demon named Set, and they became very good friends after that day.

Bastien's family despised his kindness, and when it was clear Bastien was turning into a good person, his father told him to not come back home.

Set's Anubis pack and Hinata's Oni family welcomed Bastien into their homes, lives, and families, without a second thought, and they raised him as their own.
