August was born in a big litter of chinchillas that were brought to a pet store once they were old enough to be away from their mother.
August was smaller than the other chinchillas, and was overlooked while the rest of his litter was sold. A kind redheaded woman named Cressida came by his window every day, and something about her sparked his interest. She eventually bought him and took him home, giving him a name, a warm bed, and lots of yummy snacks. He gained some amount of sentience from living with Cressida, due to an unknown element in Cressida's DNA, letting him have more feelings, small amounts of thought, and understanding of certain things about Cressida's life. He knew she'd been through a lot of pain, and needed his comfort to feel better, so he was always there for her when she needed him. He also gained some intelligence, so he was smart enough to not hurt himself in the house, or run away, or bite Cressida. He enjoyed going places with her, tucked into her jacket. When three demons came over to help her, August saw the kindness they showed Cressida, and despite their scary appearance, he knew he could trust them. |
